MONKEY ISLAND, OKLA. - Donald George "Don" Pond, 68, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2006, in Joplin, Mo.
Don was born Sept. 5, 1937, in Afton to Rufus Walter Pond and Ruth Winnie Seaton Pond. He worked at coal mines drilling shafts since he was 16 years old.
Don also worked at Baker & Taylor Drilling, retiring as a project manager in 1989. He was a Mason and a Shriner; he had a deep passion for the Shriners Hospital. He enjoyed rodeos, deep sea fishing and fly fishing, fishing all over the country. Don also had a love for Labrador retrievers and leaves behind his dog, Ginger.
Don married Francis Sturgeon on Sept. 19, 1987.
Survivors includes his wife; two children, Rocky Don Pond of Martin, Tenn., and Teri Dawn Crabtree of South Fulton, Tenn.; a stepdaughter, Deatta Sparks of Spearman; a brother, Bobby Eugene Pond of Pearland, Texas; a sister, Jewel Mae Barker of Monkey Island; four grandchildren, Kayla, Joshua, Ashley and Dustin; six stepgrandchildren, Dalton, Shyloh, Cheyenne, Heather, David and Jensin; and several loving nieces, nephews, and special cousins.
