Linda Rose Owens, 75, of Manhattan, died Friday, April 8, 2016, at the Meadowlark Hills-Wroten House in Manhattan.
She was born Linda Kerbrat on Nov. 3, 1940, in Lexington, Missouri, the youngest of seven children. Linda was raised in Lexington where she attended high school, and met her husband of 57 years, Steve Owens, who she had married on Aug. 28, 1958, in Napolean, Missouri.
Linda lived with her husband in Cordell, Oklahoma, Kansas City, Missouri, Osborne and Manhattan. She attended Kansas State University, taught GED classes in Manhattan, and was the office manager of Owens and Brake from 1978 to 2013.
Linda belonged to Manhattan Legal Secretaries and served as secretary, treasurer, vice-president and president of that organization. She was respected and well-loved for her service and friendship to members of the organization.
An avid gardener, Linda took great pleasure in planting and maintaining beautiful flower gardens. She was probably one of the first customers through Blueville Nursery's doors each spring.
Linda's greatest joy was her children and grandchildren. She loved creating imaginative holiday and birthday celebrations for her family and lovingly spent as much time as possible with her granddaughters.
She is survived by her husband, Steve Owens, of Manhattan; her daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Rich Barr of Lawrence; her granddaughters, Lauren Barr of Manhattan and Carrie Barr of Lawrence; her brother, Paul Kerbrat of Santa Monica, California; and numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Linda was preceded in death by her son, Mark Owens; her brothers, Vincent Rosewell, James Rosewell and Frank Kerbrat; and her sisters, Mary Anderson and June Elsea.
