  Journal Gazette (Mattoon, IL) August 2, 2007 CHARLESTON - Gertrude L. Sims, 86, of rural Charleston, passed away Monday, July 30, 2007 at her home. Gertrude was born December 18, 1920 at Charleston, a daughter of T.V. and Helen Traeger McDade. She married Silas K. Sims, August 15, 1940 at St. Louis, MO; he preceded her in death August 19, 2006. Surviving are two sons: Dennis Sims of Ethel, MS and Hal Sims of Charleston; five grandchildren: Yvonne Vesely, Marty G. Sims, Laura Jo Roggero, Jeffrey Sims, and Melissa Pedersen. One brother: Walter McDade of Toledo; one sister: Hazel Brown of Waterloo, IL, as well as nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by five brothers. Gertrude retired from EIU after 35 years as a food service worker. She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling, eating out with friends and family, and everyone always looked forward to Gertude's cooking at family gatherings.
