HOWDON, Robert G. "Bonehead" Age 80, passed away at 7:50- p.m. Friday August 11, 2006 at his Fairfield Township residence.
He was born February 19, 1926 in Hamilton, the son of Robert and Lillian (Seiler) Howdon.
Bob attended Liberty and Hamilton Schools. PFC Howdon, U.S. Army, served his country with honor during WWII, from April 25, 1944 to April 10, 1946. During this tour of duty, he participated in the following battles/campaigns: Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was awarded the EAME Theatre Ribbon with three Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart Medal and Victory Medal WWII. From 1946 to 1949 he was employed at Armco Steel. On August 23, 1949, Bob once again enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country with honor during the Korean War. Cpl. Howdon received an honorable discharge on December 17, 1952. While in service, he enjoyed the sport of boxing.
On January 22, 1955 he was united in marriage to Hazel Bushey, and to this union four children were born. In 1985, after 39 years with Armco Steel, Bob retired. He loved working outdoors and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Hazel Howdon; four children, Gloria K. (Gene) Lewis, Robert M. (Linda) Howdon, Steven D. Howdon and Karen E. (Jerry) Minges; seven grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren; one sister, Gloria Leshner; as well as nieces, nephews and other family member and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Kyle Minges.
