  The Hartford Courant (CT) July 17, 2007 Lois Jean (Davis) Brigham, 81, of West Hartford, beloved wife of George H. Brigham, died peacefully on Saturday, (July 14, 2007) at home surrounded by her family. Jean was born at home on September 25, 1925 in Northfield, VT to John and Alethe Davis, the third of three girls. Her sister Denise predeceased her. She grew up in Vermont and graduated from Westbrook Jr. College and went to UVM to earn a degree in Music Appreciation. It was at UVM that she met George and they married in 1948. George's job brought them to Hartford, to start a family and they eventually settled in West Hartford. Jean was a homemaker and a very active church member first of Asylum Hill Congregational Church in Hartford and then First Church of Christ Congregational, West Hartford where she enjoyed singing in the choir, volunteering in the JPW library and being part of Circle 8. When her children were young, she participated in the PTA, helped in the school library and with Girl Scouts. Jean was active in her local sorority chapter of Pi Beta Phi and a faithful volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed knitting, cooking, swimming, tennis and ice-skating. Raising six children was her primary focus and when they were older she took a part time job at Imprint Newspapers. She enjoyed returning to Vermont's Lake Champlain to ''Camp'' and to Northfield to see her sister Louise. Jean's wit and sweetness will be missed but never forgotten. Beside her husband she leaves six children: daughter Susan and Nekoma Cheyenne of Calais, VT, daughter Ann and Jon Sairs of Woodbury, VT, son John and Leslie Brigham of Simsbury, daughter Lynne and Michael Keating of Marlborough, NH, daughter Amy and her fiancé Michael Melvin of West Hartford, and daughter Joy and Andy Taylor of Farmington. She leaves her sister Louise Halsted of Northfield, VT and brother-in-law Dick Brigham and his wife Joan of Windsor. She also leaves grandchildren Sequoya, Uriah, Matthew, Samantha, Lindsay and Nathan.
