  The Daily Star (Oneonta, NY) February 19, 2021 VESTAL - John A. Burns, 86, of Vestal, passed away peacefully on Feb. 17, 2021, at Mercy House of the Southern Tier. John was the son of Harry and Laura Burns of Deposit. On June 16, 1956, he married Barbara Robinson. The two were married for 62 years before she passed away on Dec.16, 2019. John taught biology at Vestal High School from 1960 to 1971. He served as an assistant principal until 1989. In retirement, he and his wife, Barbara, became world travelers. Together, they visited more than 40 countries. Some of John's favorite memories were of snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, playing golf in Fiji, and piloting a yacht off Auckland, New Zealand. John's greatest joy in life was his family. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Barbara; and brother-in-law, George Glass. He is survived by his son, Christopher and his wife, Tracy; son, Brian and his wife, Elizabeth; and grandchildren, Tony, Kevin and Meg Burns.
