Milbridge— Ava G. Skinner, 78, died peacefully at her home with her son by her side November 21, 2002.
She was born in Milbridge November 20, 1924 the daughter of William and Gertrude (Cole) Ray.
She grew up in the Wyman district and attended school at the Wyman School and the Milbridge High School. Ava loved being outdoors spending time in her flower gardens, bottle hunting with her grandchildren, cleaning her yard and spending time at Long Pond. She was a member of the Alcyone Chapter O.E.S. of Milbridge and was a member of the Church Choir of the Milbridge Congregational Church. Ava was an accomplished cook whose chocolate cake was a favorite of many.
Spending time on her home was important to her from painting to papering she could do it all. In 1954 after moving to their home, she and her husband began taking in guests, often having people from all over the world. She had a deep love of music playing both the organ and banjo by ear as well as enjoying dancing at the Blue Goose.
She is survived by her daughter, Lori Breau and her husband, Mark of Winter Park, FL and her son, Larry Skinner of Milbridge; three grandchildren, Markie Breau and his wife, Grace of Steuben, Michelle Breau of Winter Park, FL and Madison Kennedy of Steuben; two great grandchildren, little Markee and Zachary Breau of Steuben. She is also survived by a special niece, Myrna and her husband, Milledge McConnell and their family of Lincoln; nephews, Terry Skinner and his wife, Janice of Columbia and Harold Skinner and his wife, Jane of Harrington and Florida; and many cousins. va will also be remembered by many neighbors and friends whose acts of love and kindness will always be remembered by her family.
She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Roger G. Skinner in 1979, her sister, Vera Pinkham in 1943, a special niece Peggy Pinkham in 2001 and her brother in law, Handy "Pan" Pinkham on Nov. 19.
