  Maine Sunday Telegram (Portland, ME) March 24, 1996 Elmer ''Cobb'' Young Sr., 82, of Route 22 died Thursday at Maine Medical Center, Portland. He was born in Gouldsboro, son of Thurlow Young and Mildred Rice Young (later Dyer), and attended schools there and in Portland. During World War II, Mr. Young served with Gen. George S. Patten's Third Army in Europe. After the war he operated a crane for Blue Rock Quarry for more than 30 years and operated a crane and a truck for the Maine Turnpike Authority until his retirement in the mid-1980s. His interests included harness racing. Mr. Young was a member of the Buxton Masonic Lodge. His wife, Ruth Hodgkins Young, died in 1980. Survivors include two sons, Ronald of Dayton and Elmer of Buxton; two daughters, Verona Hunt of Alfred and Beverly Higgins of Lyman; three brothers, Paul and Peter Dyer of Gouldsboro and Scott Dyer of Steuben; a sister, Lena McNutt of Belfast; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
