PINELLAS PARK, Fla. -- Rachel Eleanor Blunt, 78, formerly of Saco, died at the Northside Hospital in Pinellas Park, Fla. She was born in Saco on Aug. 18, 1928, the oldest daughter of Willie Emory Tracy and Mildred Mae Huntress Tracy. Rachel grew up in Saco with her parents and nine siblings.
Rachel eloped to Townsend, Vt. with Albert Ernest Blunt in 1946, where they worked picking apples at Millers Apple Orchard to earn money to get married. They were wed in Brattleboro, Vt. on Oct. 17. They remained in Brattleboro for several months before moving back to Maine. They made their home in Saco for over 42 years and raised their family there. They retired to Florida in 1988.
Rachel worked at various factories in the Saco-Biddeford area, including shoe factories, Circus Time Potato Chip Company and Humpty Dumpty Chip Company. She had many fond memories of her friends from work, especially those from Humpty Dumpty.
Rachel was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Albert Ernest Blunt, who died in 1999; a grandson, Ernest William; and a brother, Donald. Two other brothers had died shortly after birth.
Survivors include four daughters, Carol and her husband Gerald Souliere of Pinellas Park, Fla., Barbara and her husband George Wiseman of Saco, Ruth Pierce of Wilder, Vt., and Margaret Hilland and her former spouse Michael Carter of Pinellas Park, Fla.; five sisters, Evelyn, Mattie, Peggie, Marion and Ruth; three brothers, Lawrence, Richard and Walter; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
