  Dignitymemorial.com John E. Sharp died on Monday, May 6, 2013 after a long battle with several illnesses. He was born in Huntington Heights, New York on January 26, 1933. His father, Bill was a minister at several parishes before becoming an Army chaplain. The family moved frequently, and in 1952 John joined the U.S. Army. Basic Training was followed by a tour of duty in Korea with the 40th Infantry Division. While there John served as his father's assistant chaplain. He completed his military service in June of 1955 and attended the University of Kansas under the GI bill, graduating with a B.S. Degree in Journalism in 1960. From 1960 until 1964 he worked at a civilian radio station. In 1964 John entered the federal work force as a Public Relations Specialist, and from 1973 until his retirement in July 1997, John wrote speeches for the commanding generals, and narrated numerous ceremonies, becoming the "voice of the quadrangle" at Fort Sam Houston. John was an active member of St. David's Episcopal Church. He served as a lay reader, vestry member, and senior warden. He helped conduct worship services at Mission Road, Emeritas, and Park Lane West. John is survived by his wife, Janet; son, John; and brother, Tracy; nephews, Jeff Sharp, T J. Sharp & Todd Sharp; nieces, Julianne Johnson & Teri Snowden.
