Mr. William D. Rockwell, age 89, a resident of Utica for over 40 years, passed
away Friday, July 13, 2007, after a 5 month illness in the Avenue Nursing Facility in
Schenectady, NY.
Since 2005 he had resided with his son, Jim and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Piazza in Glenville, NY.
He was born on May 24,1918 in Herkimer, NY, a son of the late Pliny and Blanche Jones ROCkwell. and was educated locally. He served our country during WWll in the US Army, 15th Engineer Battalion. He was married to Carma Nencetli in 1961 in the Town of Ohio, a blessed union of 44 years until her death in 2005.
Bill was employed for many years at the UNIVAC Corp. in the accounting department, until his retirement He was an avid fly fisherman, hunter and skilled woodworker. He was a member of the Royal Order of Masons, Iroquois Chapter #236, the Paris Gun Club and the Mohawk Valley Rifle Club.
He was predeceased by his wife, Carma; and his beloved son, William Rockwell Il.
Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Elizabeth Piazza; his grandchildren, James (Paula) Piazza II, Kelly (David) Shimkus and Nicholas Austin Piazza, all of Scotia; his stepdaughter, Regina P. Winkler; and grandsons, Patrick and Michael Winkler. all of New Hartford; He also wishes to remember his former son-in-law, Patrick J. Winkler. He enjoyed his qreat-qrandchlldren, Ava and Alayna Shimkus, and Jake Piazza they will miss their Pa. They brought a smile to Bill's face even in his last days.
