  The Observer-Dispatch October 5, 2014 NEWPORT – Elinor J. Nightingale, 86, formerly of Norway Street, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on October 2, 2014 at Mohawk Valley Health Care Center, Ilion. Mrs. Nightingale was born on July 6, 1928 in Herkimer, a daughter of the late Linus and Marjorie (Newman) Ford. She graduated from West Canada Valley Central School. On November 8, 1947, Elinor was united in marriage with Robert M. Nightingale at the First Baptist Church of Newport. Although primarily a devoted homemaker for her family, she worked as a Library Assistant at West Canada Valley Central School for a few years. She was later employed by the Herkimer County Office for the Aging. Bob preceded her in death on May 6, 2014. Elinor was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Newport where she served as treasurer for both the Church and Mizpah Guild for many years. She also served as a Republican Committeewoman for many years as well as on the Election Board in Newport. Survivors include her four children; one brother; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three brothers-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
