Dean W. Newman, 71, of Summit Street, Middleville, died on June 10, 2007 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica. Mr. Newman was born on April 3, 1936 in the Town of Russia, a son of the late Glenn D. and Margaret (Wood) Newman.
He spent his early years on the family farm in Cold Brook and received his education at Poland Central School. Dean entered the U.S. Army in 1959 where he served overseas and later transferred to the army reserves. He was honorably discharged at the rank of sergeant in 1964. Dean had first worked at the former Middleville Tannery and then for 25 years at Salada Foods and REDCO Foods Corp. in Little Falls, from where he retired. He was of the Episcopal faith and a member of Adirondack Post #1118 American Legion, Cold Brook. Dean was an avid deer hunter in earlier years.
Survivors include his companion, Katherine "Katie" Wilson of Middleville: six sisters, Joan Tobin of Dolgeville, Pat Brown and her husband, Charles of Bridgewater, Sally Truax, Judy Newman and Carol Young, all of Cold Brook and Cindy Fitzgerald of Utica; two brothers, James Newman and his wife, Dawn of CT, and Dale Newman and his wife, Sharon of Cold Brook; a close friend, Faith Odit of Cold Brook; two aunts, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves the four children of his longtime companion, Marjorie M. Wright, who died in 1999, Carol Wright-Phillips and her husband, Richard of FL, Connie Nicolette, her son, Tyson Ford, her husband, Fran and their daughter, Cassie Nicolette of Watertown, Charles Wright of WA, and Cynthia Sharp, her husband, Greg, and their children, Walter and Zoe Sharp of New Zealand, Katie Wilson's children, Dean Wilson and his wife, Barb of N. Utica, Everett Wilson and his wife, Tammy of ME, and Karen DeGoff and her husband, Phil of Herkimer, and their families; and his canine companion, "Lucky."
In addition to Marjorie, he was predeceased by two brothers, Robert in 1998, and Richard in 2005.
