Geraldine "Geri" A. Smith, 78, of Valley Health Services in Herkimer, New York and a life long resident of Dolgeville, New York, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center with her loving family by her side.
Geri was born on September 16, 1938 in Utica, New York and was the daughter of the late Paul and Dorothy (Chown) Newman. She attended Dolgeville Central School and graduated with the Class of 1956. Geri went on to attend Albany Business School and earned her Associate's Degree, graduating in 1958.
On August 16, 1958, Geri was united in marriage to Bruce L. Smith at the Dolgeville United Methodist Church. The couple shared a loving union of 43 years, until his passing on June 13, 2002. Together, Geri and Bruce raised their seven sons together.
Geri was well known to many families in the Dolgeville area throughout the years as she ran a day care from her home, raising many children while their mothers and fathers were at work. Geri formed a deep bond with many families in her area. She also was an Avon Representative as well as Tupperware and BeeLine clothing line.
She was a life long member of the Dolgeville United Methodist Church, a former member of the Auskerada Maquaes Rock City Chapter #204, Order of the Eastern Star of Dolgeville, New York and also a member of a bowling league at the Dolgeville bowling alley.
Geri was an avid reader and enjoyed socializing with her friends and family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister and will be missed by her beloved family.
She is survived by her six beloved sons, Todd Smith and his companion, Micki of Dolgeville, NY, Bruce Smith and his companion, Toni Jodway of Dolgeville, NY, Brian Smith and his wife, Karleen of Thomaston, CT, Keith Smith and his partner, Paul Lewis of Rotterdam, NY, Brad Smith of Ashland, MA, and Blake Smith and his wife, Jessica of East Syracuse, NY; her special grandchildren, Brittney Link and her husband, Paul, Chelsea Smith, Catherine Ettaldi, Ryan Null and his wife, Daisy, Alana Musson, Austin Smith, Madison Smith, Andrew Smith, Alexander Smith, Brett Smith, and Ryan Smith; her cherished great-grandchildren, Jarrod, Wyatt, Aaliyah, Jisela, Malika, Joslyn, Anthony, Jacob, Andrew, and Domenic; a loving sister, Patricia "Patti" Mosier of Dolgeville, NY; two nephews, Paul Mosier of Omaha, NE and Kevin Mosier and his wife Elizabeth of Delmar, NY; several brothers and sisters in law; nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Geri was predeceased by her beloved son, Brett Smith on January 24, 1997. She was also predeceased by her brother in law, Allen Mosier and also her aunt Adeline Ryder.
Burial will take place in the spring in Dolgeville Cemetery, Dolgeville, New York, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Bruce and her son, Brett.
