  Lewiston Morning Tribune (ID) March 6, 1993 GRANGEVILLE Avery Brewer Sr., a retired sawmill worker, died of causes related to age Monday at the Idaho County Nursing Home in Grangeville. He was 90. He was born April 11, 1902, in Wolf County, Ky., the son of Dennis and Ruth Ellen Bryant Brewer. In 1911 the family moved to Winegar, Wis., where he was raised and attended school. As a young man he worked as a hunting guide. He had the privilege of having Ty Cobb and Thomas Edison in his hunting camps, and he was also present at the Bohemian Club when John Dillinger was shot and killed. He owned and operated a Ford garage at Winegar. He married Hazel Davis at Winegar June 6, 1923. In 1933 the couple moved to Winchester, where he worked in a sawmill. They then moved to the Grangemont area, and he went to work at Schmidt's Mill in Weippe. He also worked for Lawrence Olson and was instrumental in building the O-Mill near Grangemont in 1934. The mill was then bought by White Pine Lumber Co., and later Potlatch Forests Inc. in 1960. He became mill superintendent in 1948. He retired from the mill in 1964, and the couple continued to live in the Grangemont area until 1975, when they moved to Orofino. She died July 10, 1984. He moved to the Idaho County Nursing Home in January 1990. He enjoyed hunting, gold mining and wood gathering. Survivors include a son, Ardath Brewer of Orofino, five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. A daughter and several brothers and sisters died previously.
