Sherwin Trumbull Haskell Sherwin Trumbull Haskell, Jr., 95, of Hilton Head Island died Thursday, March 11, 2010 at The Fraser Health Center.
He was born on January 12, 1915 in East Haven, Connecticut, the son of Sherwin Trumbull and Olive Andrews Haskell. "Trum" attended the University of Connecticut and graduated from Bryant University in 1937.
He met the love of his life, Mildred, (Millie) on February 28, 1936, and they married on November 20, 1943. He served his country faithfully in The United States Army from 1943-1946. After his services in the Army, Trum pursued a career with McGraw-Hill Publishing Company in New York, from which he retired in 1970.
Trum and Millie began visiting Hilton Head in 1968, and bought property in 1972. After Millie retired from teaching in New Canaan, Connecticut, they sold their home and settled in Sea Pines Plantation, in 1984. In 2004, they moved to The Seabrook Retirement Community, where they have enjoyed six years of community and friendship.
In addition to his wife, Trum is survived by his children: a son, Skip and MaryLou Haskell (Hilton Head Is. SC) and a daughter, Debby and Andy Calhoun (Salem SC). Trum was a loving and giving grandfather to his eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Trum assisted in the formation of "Second Helpings" and worked with them and the "Bargain Box" for twenty- five years. In addition to his volunteerism, Trum and Millie have enjoyed 25 years of gardening at the Heritage Gardens in Sea Pines Plantation.
