Notes

The following biographical notes provided by Ken Sargent on rootsweb.com:

"[From a letter from Barbara Nettles to her half-brother Carl F. Fitz [not dated)]
Joseph Albert was a ship rigger and had a business on Commercial St, in E. Boston.
He was on the brig 'Rattlesnake' in the War of 1812. He was with the Privateers and was what they called a Powder Monkey when he was about 13 years of age. The 'Rattlesnake' was a regular US. vessel, a sister ship of the Enterprise. The Rattlesnake was captured by the English and take to Dartmoor England where Joseph was take prisoner of war. There was no record of this in Washington as he was a privateer. He applied for a pension as he had proof of service from fellow prisoners and furnished affidavits to that effect from them. This information was given to George Sargent by his Grandmother".
