  Star Tribune: Newspaper of the Twin Cities (Minneapolis, MN) September 19, 2018 Bridgeman, John S., Originally of East Chicago Indiana, born May 22, 1934 passed away Friday, September 14th, 2018 In the presence of his loving family. John was preceded in death by his parents, William and Riverlee, his brothers William and Ulysses and sisters Minnie and Gwen. John is survived by Wife, Faye - Sons, Chris (Angela) and Marcus (Jennifer) Grandkids, Daniel, Brodyn, Natalia and Stella Siblings, Joyce (Ronald) Gearring Harold (Debra) Delroy (Judith) Many Nieces, Nephews and Other Loving Relatives whom he loved tremendously.. John attended the University of Wisconsin where he was one of the first African American's to play football for the school. In 1956 John Bridgeman carried the ball 75 times with 337 yards with a 4.5-yard average. In 1956 he had a 78-yard TD reception against USC which is still in the UW record books today. John made his way to Minneapolis, Minnesota. He went to work in Hennepin County as a parole officer in the juvenile courts. His family moved from Bloomington to Golden Valley, Minnesota. It was here that they spent the next 40 years. John spent his entire life in the service to others. After working in the Minneapolis Public Schools for over 30 years John retired only to go back to work to teach for several more years. In the early 2000's John and Faye became Snowbirds. John loved tennis and Arizona provided him the perfect setting. John will be sorely missed by everyone who had an opportunity to know him.
