Connie (Constantine) John Haberman of Sioux Falls passed away peacefully at the VA Hospital on March 12, 2016 surrounded by his family.
Connie was born December 3, 1927 to Constantine and Lucy Haberman of Lime Creek, MN. He received his education thru the 8th grade and worked on the family farm until he enlisted in the US Army.
Connie proudly served his country in the US Army Battery B 675th Armored Field Artillery Battalion at Fort Campbell Kentucky. He was awarded with his "Parachute Badge' after completing multiple jumps and achieved the rank of PFC. He was honorably discharged on December 20th, 1956.
Connie was married to Marilyn Martin on June 19, 1954. Grateful for having shared his life are his 4 children - Larry (Sandy) Haberman, Susan (Scott) Hanegan, Mary Kay Haberman and Sharon Ingemunson, 5 grandchildren: Chelsea, Dana (Sam), Ashley (BJ), Brian and Melissa (George) 4 great grandchildren Kenzie, Aiden, Kaylee and Amara.
Connie had a passion for hunting and fishing. Each spring he loved to fish at his favorite fishing spot "Keiners Bottom". Each fall he looked forward to hunting in the White Lake area. Most of the trips were spent with his son Larry and cherished friend "Ole."
Connie's favorite baseball team was the Boston Red Socks. Many years ago Connie was working at John Morrell and his beloved Red Socks were playing in the World Series. Connie climbed on top of a table to listen to the game and jumped off the table and broke his ankle. His friends would tease him in that he could jump out of airplane and land without breaking a leg and couldn't jump off a table without breaking his ankle! Connie also cheered loudly for his Minnesota Vikings.
Connie loved his garden and took pride in his "tomato" crop. Connie's yard was one of the "greenest' in town.
Connie worked for John Morrell for 39 years in the Pork Cut department and retired in 1987. In the years following his retirement Connie enjoyed transporting cars and worked for Sioux Falls Ford and multiple rental car agencies.
Connie and Marilyn celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a special dance during his granddaughter's Dana's wedding in July of 2015. They asked everyone in attendance to join in on the dance floor. They asked each person to leave as they announced the years they have been married. My dad grinned when he realized he was set up and Grandpa (Connie) and Grandma (Marilyn) would be the last two dancing on the floor. What a priceless memory!
Sundays were special to Connie because it was a day of worship and his faith in God and the Catholic Church.
The Haberman Family has many memories of the stereo blaring John Cash "Sunday Morning Coming Down" then off to church followed by a family supper. Connie looked forward especially to desserts. He definitely had a sweet tooth.
The last six months Connie made his home at the VA Hospital. He looked forward to playing Bingo, visits from family and playing cards with his great grandchildren. His eyes would sparkle when family visited.
Connie will be greatly missed by all those that knew and loved him
Connie is survived by his sisters Bernice Clark Benicia, CA, Mary (Kearn) Ward, Forrest Lake, MN and Donna (Ron) Raatz, Pipestone, MN.
