Carol Zeigler Loring, passed away Monday, September 12, 2022, in Knoxville, TN, at the age of 78.
She was born May 18, 1944 in Gastonia, NC, to the late Harold and Mary Loring.
She grew up in the neighborhood of Myers Park in Charlotte, NC. She was baptized at Myers Park Baptist Church. She graduated from the University of North Carolina in Charlotte with a bachelors degree in psychology and later earned her associates degree in paralegal technology. She began her career in the prisons of North Carolina as a social worker. She then worked for several years as a paralegal before returning to social work, where she devoted herself to the care of those in need.
She worked with the elderly in Taos Pueblo and Taos, NM, children in the child welfare program in Arkansas, the elderly of northwest Arkansas, the elderly of East Tennessee, and the cerebral palsy community of Knoxville, before retiring at the age of 74.
Carol was an avid reader, animal lover, and gardener who loved spending time walking her dog in local parks, "digging in the dirt," making home improvements, and baking treats for her family. She was known for giving beautifully crafted gifts that she made with her own hands. Carol's spirituality was easygoing because it was unquestioning. She seemed to effortlessly feel the presence of her own deceased loved ones as guardian angels; it was part of her belief in the ultimate triumph of "love and light," which is how she signed all of her correspondence. Carol was a beautiful light in this world and was known for the love, kindness and compassion that she shared with everyone she knew.
Known as Mama C and Grammie to her five grandchildren, she was an example of deep humanity to them and they brought her a joy unmatched by any other. She will be missed beyond measure.
Preceded in death by grandson Christopher Larson; sister-in-law Murphy Davis; and best friend Kathie Smith.
She leaves behind the love of her life, husband LB Pitts; children Scott and (Melanie) Bianchi, Shannon and (Suzette) Bianchi; and (Dan) and Meg Larson; grandchildren Luke, Jeremy, and Julie Larson, Beau Bianchi, and Ariana Bianchi; brother Eduard Loring; nephew Neely Loring; nieces Susan Loring and Hannah Murphy Buc; beloved dog Jenny and many extended family members and friends.
