WALNUT, Calif. — Mrs. Helen Mary G. (Thomas) Derengowski, formerly of Watertown, Conn., passed away on Jan. 7, 2010, at the age of 70 with her loving husband, Edwin, at her side at San Dimas Community Hospital in California after a long battle with a brain tumor.
Helen Mary was born May 11, 1939, in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, daughter of Helen (Dow) Thomas and the late John B. Thomas.
She was raised in Watertown, Conn., and graduated from Watertown High School in 1957. Helen Mary moved to California in 1968 where she worked at Snugl Wheel Weight Co., Morgan & Sampson, Shepherd Machinery. She was the administrative assistant to the general manager at Earl Insurance and was working at LPL Industries when she became ill.
Helen Mary is loved and will be deeply missed by her husband and devoted caretaker, Edwin.
She is survived by her mother, Helen D. Thomas of Naugatuck, Conn.; sisters, Elizabeth Blanner of Agawam, Mass., and Evelyn Nelson of Waterbury, Conn.; her brother, John C. Thomas of Naugatuck, Conn.; 13 nieces and nephews, and 16 great nieces and great nephews.
Besides her father, she was predeceased by her sister, Marcia Gray of Thomaston, Conn.
Helen Mary enjoyed life to its fullest and was a talented artist and musician. She also loved gardening, sewing, knitting and crocheting.
