Julian M. "Jake" Dunphy, 93, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at his home in Highland Plt.
He was born on Dec. 14, 1921, in Highland Plt., to Alvah J. and Gertrude L. (Howard) Dunphy.
He served with the United States Army during WWII in the European, African, Middle Eastern Theatre.
On May 1, 1947, he was married in Kingfield to Lelia G. Newell.
Jake was a lifelong resident of the Highland/Embden area. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for area lumbering contractors and also construction companies. He retired from Cianbro Construction in 1983.Jake was an avid outdoor person who especially enjoyed hunting and trapping.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lelia G. Dunphy of Highland Plt.; three children, Julie (Dunphy) Mulloy and her husband Roger of Rye, N.H., Jodie Dunphy and his wife Patricia of Highland Plt., and Jean M. Dunphy and her companion Greg Wiley of Portland; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother Basil Dunphy and his wife Jo of Highland Plt.
