  Star-Gazette (Elmira, NY) June 15, 2003 BROWN, Raymond W. Age 88 of Elmira NY died Saturday, June 14, 2003 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Ray was born in Pulteney NY, son of Ray R. and Edith Wescott Brown. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marion Eberenz Brown sisters, Helen Eastwood and Thelma Brown. Ray is survived by his wife Mary Hawbecker- Brown daughters and sons-inlaw, Emily and John Silvestro of Hadley MA, Linda and John Farley of Elmira, Connie and Paul Kupferberg of Parkersburg WV stepchildren, John Hawbecker and wife Mildred of Salem SC and Ellen Brown of Fayetteville NY sister, Genevieve Rees of Bath NY brother Lawson Brown of Elmira 7 grandchildren and 5 step-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends. Ray was a veteran of WW II having served in the Army Air Corps. He was retired from Corning Inc. He was an avid gardener and outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish in his younger years. He was a former member of the Erin Town board and former president of the Elmira Heights School District PTA. He was a current member of the Horseheads Elks and the Elmira Heights American Legion Post #154.
