SOUTH YARMOUTH - Lewis Ashton Babbitt, 76, died unexpectedly Wednesday at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis. He was the husband of the late Phinette (Stanley) Babbitt. Mr. Babbitt was born in New Jersey and grew up in Morrisville, Pa., where he attended school. He graduated from Pennington Preparatory School in Pennington, N.J. and Wesleyan College in Middleton, Conn. During World War II, Mr. Babbitt served in the Army. He resided in Yardley, Pa., for many years before moving to the Cape more than 40 years ago. Mr. Babbitt and his wife worked in the motel business in Yarmouth for many years. Mr. Babbitt was also a former resident of West Yarmouth. He was a member of the South Yarmouth United Methodist Church.
Mr. Babbitt is survived by three children, James Babbitt of Princeton, N.J., Patricia McDonald of Jacksonville, Fla.. and William Stanley of West Yarmouth; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
