Former West Winfield Mayor Harold W. ''Doc'' Talbot, 80, died Thursday at St. Luke's Memorial Hospital Center, New Hartford. A native of Burlington Flats, Mr. Talbot lived many years in West Winfield, residing on Fairground Road. He retired a few years ago after serving 20 years as the village's mayor. Mr. Talbot was a farmer for many years and previously taught agriculture and coached basketball in Leonardsville, Madison and Bridgewater schools. Mr. Talbot was a graduate of West Winfield Academy and Syracuse University.
Among his accomplishments as mayor, Mr. Talbot was responsible for the construction of Fairgrounds Circle and Drive, a housing development of 42 homes, and the construction of General Winfield Scott House, senior citizing housing. He also was the host of Agriculture Today, a program on Utica television station WKTV.
Surviving are his wife, the former Louise Crandall; a son, Harold W. III of Chittenango; two daughters, Judith Armstrong and Joan Evans, both of West Winfield; a brother, James of Morris; and six grandchildren.
