Mabel Sandberg, 85, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005 at the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, MN.
Mabel Marie Hageman was born on March 14, 1920 in rural Stephen, MN, the daughter of Emil and Hettie (Talbot) Hageman.
She spent her childhood on the rural Stephen farm and attended country school. As a young lady, she left Minnesota and worked as a nanny and housekeeper for several families in Illinois. On Nov. 18, 1938, she was united in marriage to LaVerne Sandberg in Davenport, IA. To this union, four children were born. Over the years they lived in various places including Cambridge and the Quad Cities area in Illinois and Stephen, Warren, Red Lake Falls and Erskine, MN. Mabel did housecleaning for many different families and business establishments in Warren for many years. She loved being with family and friends, bingo, playing card games, visiting and sharing good food and fun. There was always laughter and a lot of activity. Her cooking and baking were excellent, especially her homemade noodles.
Left to mourn her passing are a son and two daughters; Larry (Patsy) Sandberg of Roscoe, IL, Cookie (Elmer) Melby of Middle River, MN and Cindy (Dave) Erickson of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, daughter-in-law, Peggy Sandberg of Erskine, MN, thirteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, three sisters; Francis Van Overberg of Milan, IL, Jean Laudal of Stephen, MN, Marlys Benson of Hermantown, MN and many nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Vernon, five brothers, Carl, Harold, Raymond, Floyd and Albert, two sisters, Agnes and Gladys.
