Doris Arlene Talbot Whitehouse, 90, of Norman, passed away Wednesday, September 15, 2010 after a long illness.
Doris was born on March 26, 1920 in Galva, Illinois. She was the youngest child of Benjamin and Grace Talbot. She married Sidney A. Whitehouse on January 23, 1937 in Henry, Illinois. They enjoyed married life for 68 years before Sidney passed in 2005. Doris was a quiet lady with a sense of humor and a quick wit.
A homemaker most of her life, her family meant everything to her. She was always active in her daughter's school activities, a wonderful therapist when her daughter got polio. She was a "hands on" grandmother and dearly loved watching her great-grandchildren grow up. Doris loved to crochet, garden, fish and birds! She had an extensive collection of Lennox Porcelain North American Birds. She and Sidney loved to ball room dance. In later years as health issues curtailed her activities, she became an avid reader and loved watching all sports on TV, especially basketball.
She was such a gentle soul and will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother and sister, several nephews and one niece.
She is survived by her daughter, Joan (Richard) Knudsen; granddaughter, Julie Knudsen; grandson, Curt Knudsen; great-granddaughter, Haley Knudsen; great-grandson, Connor Knudsen; special nieces, Mary (Richard) Kerner, Lois (Jack) Edwards; nephews, Jack (Dora Lee) Talbot, Roland (Celia) Kerr, Dr. Richard (Sharlene) Whitehouse, William (Denise) Husted, Loren (Julia) Husted and many great nieces and nephews; Godchildren, Janice (Dave) Cook and Gregory P. Anderson.
