DWIGHT - Dorothy Davis Talbot, 80, of Galva, formerly of Dwight and Farmer City, died at 8 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 18, 1998) at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
Burial will be in Galva Cemetery.
Mrs. Talbot was born March 27, 1917, at Dwight, the daughter of Harry and Rachel Miller Davis. She married Charles W. Talbot on Oct. 22, 1937, at Kewanee. He died May 10, 1972.
Survivors include one daughter, Diana (Robert) Cardiff, Galva; one grandson; and one great-grandson. The grandson is Jeffery Jay Huber, Gulfport, Miss. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Talbot was educated in Dwight, Farmer City and Galva schools and graduated from Galva High School in 1934. She studied pipe organ from 1930 through 1934 with Hugh C. Price in Kewanee and then two years at Sherwood Music School in Chicago. In 1936 and for part of 1937, she sang over radio station WBBM in Chicago, WOC in Danvenport, Iowa; and WMBD in Peoria. In Peoria, her announcer was a then young and now famous, Jack Brickhouse.
She had been an organist at First United Methodist Church and First Congregational Church in Galva from 1930 until her recent hospital stay. She also had played for weddings and funerals in almost every church in Galva. She had been the principal organist at Rux Funeral Home in Galva and its predecessor, Johnson-Gill-Schuster and Schuster Funeral Home. She also had worked as a medical secretary to Dr. E.M. Eckberg in Galva from 1945 to 1962. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Galva.
