CAMBRIDGE - Services for Stanley W. Talbot, 50, of rural Cambridge will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cambridge Community Hall. The Rev. David Knudsen will officiate. He was pronounced dead at 1:58 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2001, at the Trinity Medical Center emergency room in Rock Island. He died as a result of a hit-and-run accident at 15th Street and Second Avenue in Rock Island.
Burial will be in Annawan Cemetery in Annawan.
Born Aug. 26, 1950, in Kewanee to Earl and Sheila Ringel Talbot, he married Shirley M. Engstrom on Oct. 15, 1972, in Bishop Hill. He later married Ladonna Akins on Nov. 4, 1989. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Dyan Talbot of Cambridge; one son, Douglas Talbot of Cambridge; his mother Sheila Otis of Kewanee; two sisters, Becky (and Manuel) Vallejo of Kewanee and Mary Beth Abraham of Hanover; three brothers, Bruce (and Sheila) Talbot of Bakersfield, Calif., Dave (and Tammy) Talbot of Kewanee and Jason Otis of Wyoming; eight stepbrothers and stepsisters; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father; his stepfather, Quentin Otis; and an infant sister. He attended Black Hawk College East Campus in Kewanee from 1968 to 1970 and then was a student at Illinois State University in Normal, receiving a bachelor's degree in agriculture in 1972.
He served in the Marine ROTC from 1970 to 1972. He joined the Bloomington Police Department after graduation and served for 21/2 years before going to the Illinois State Police Academy in 1975. He was a master sergeant with the Illinois State Police when he died.
He worked for the state police's District 5 in Joliet until being transferred to District 7 in East Moline, where he served until his death. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, Illinois Police Association and the Fraternal Order of Police Troopers Lodge 41.
