David R. Covell, age 88, passed away unexpectedly Monday, February 19, 2018. He was born September 18, 1929 in Muskegon to Vernon and Marion (Secord) Covell.
David was a U.S. Marine Corp Veteran of the Korean War and was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. On Oc- tober 18, 1952, he married the former Doris A. Staffney in Muskegon and she preceded him in death on June 12, 2015. David worked for Brunswick Corporation for 25 years, then for Irwin Seating Company in Grand Rapids for 13 years, prior to retiring in 1994. He was regarded by many as the dean of high school football announcers and had announced Muskegon Catholic Central football games for 33 years.
SURVIVORS include 8 children: Victor Covell, David (Lois) Covell, Mark (Nancy) Covell, Larry (Diane) Covell, Steven (Adrianna) Covell, Marielen Covell, Douglas Covell, Barbra (Derek) Gaff; 14 grandchildren: Bradley (Kristen) Covell, Sara (Anthony) Sclafani, Brandon, David, Matthew, Andrew, Eric, Kristina, and Lauren Covell, Chad, Colton, and Caleb Gaff, Molly and Katheryn Gibson; 4 greatgrandchildren: Sawyer and EIIiott Covell, Audrey and Amelia Sclafani; 4 brothers; 1 sister; many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Janet Covell.
