Nona Nielsen Genebach, age 90, died on June 1, 2008, in Madison county, Virginia with her husband, Larry Genebach, by her side.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sister, Madjol Klein of Phoenix, Arizona, her three daughters, Carol Lewis of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Sharon Luke of Sperryville, Virginia, and Susan Munday of Warrenton, Virginia, by her six grandchildren, Katherine Otero, Ann Armijo, and Susan Carter all of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Christina Luke and Ben Luke of Sperryville, Virginia, and Sarah Batchelder, of Warrenton, Virginia, and by six great-grandchildren, Richard Sanchez of Maryland, Frances Steckbauer, Mariah Steckbauer, Ryann Carter, Victor Armijo, and Jada Carter, all of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Mrs. Genebach was born on March 2, 1918, in Burlington, Wisconsin, the daughter of Nellie and Charles Nielsen. In her young adult years, she was a professional trumpet player and in the 1940s had her own dance band. One evening in the spring of 1948, a young soldier came into the club where she was playing, and fell in love at first sight. He returned every evening until she agreed to go out with him. They were married eleven days later and they celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary this year on April 17.
After raising her daughters, Mrs. Genebach worked for many years as a store detective in Fairfax county, Virginia. She enjoyed her years in law enforcement and had an impressive arrest and conviction record. In 1976, she helped her daughter Sharon open her law practice in Washington, Virginia, and subsequently worked there as a legal secretary for thirty years. She loved her job, learning about the legal profession, and mastering the use of a computer in her 70s. She enjoyed her association with the attorneys, courthouse staff, clients and others she met through her work, and she became good friends with many of them.
