  Norwich Bulletin November 13, 2005 NORWICH - Albert Z. (Bud) Babbitt, Jr., age 85, of Canterbury Turnpike, Norwich, passed away Friday, November 11, at home in the presence of his loving wife. Bud was born on November 30, 1919 in Occum, CT to Albert Z. Babbitt Sr. and Marseline (Godaire) Babbitt. After attending Occum School and Norwich Free Academy, he left school during the Depression years to work for his father at Babbitt's Garage. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1940 before the start of World War II. He survived the December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor while stationed at Hickam Air Field in Hawaii. He was honorably discharged from military service in 1945 with the rank of Master Sergeant. Bud married the former Anne Plante on September 3, 1960. They had two children, Albert J. and Cheryl. Bud coowned and operated Babbitt Brothers Garage for over 50 years and retired at the age of 78. He was a 60year member of the American Legion. Bud was a fair and honorable man whose only vice was watching Boston Red Sox games. Survivors include Anne, his wife of 45 years, son Albert J. Babbitt (wife Yvonne) of Kennesaw, Georgia, daughter Cheryl LaFountain (husband John) and two cherished grandsons, Matthew and Ryan LaFountain, of Ishpeming, Michigan. Bud is also survived by sisters Gladys Rioux of Taftville and Alice Grimshaw of East Hampton, brother Ernest (Gus) Babbitt of Norwich and several nieces and nephews.
