  Boston Herald (MA) March 2, 1998 The Rev. William T. Babbitt of North Attleboro, associate pastor at Saint Mary's Parish, died Wednesday at the Madonna Manor Nursing Home after a long illness. He was 73. Father Babbitt was born in Occum, Conn., where he was taught by the Sisters of Mercy at St. Patrick's School. He also attended Norwich Free Academy. At age 16 he left school to work in the Woolen Mill of Norwich.When he was 18 years old, Babbitt entered the brotherhood. He became a Holy Cross brother on Aug. 15, 1943. As a brother, he attended Notre Dame University and then St. John's University in New York, where he received a bachelor of science degree in education. He earned a master of education degree in 1965 at Bridgewater State College. In the fall of 1969, he entered the Theological College at Catholic University, Washington, D.C. In 1970 he was ordained at St. Mary's Cathedral in Fall River. He served at Holy Ghost Parish, Attleboro; Our Lady of Isles, Nantucket; St. Paul's Parish and St. Mary's Parish, both in Taunton; Our Lady of Fatima, New Bedford; and since 1983, St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Parish, North Attleboro. Father Babbitt co-founded and taught at the Archbishop Hoban High School in Akron, Ohio. During his career he also taught St. Thomas Aquinas Grade School and St. Francis Assisi Grade School, both in Brooklyn, N.Y., Notre Dame High School in Indiana; Holy Cross High School in Flushing, N.Y.; Vincentian Institute in Albany, N.Y.; and Monsignor Coyle High School, Taunton. He was also a fourth degree knight in the Knights of Columbus, North Attleboro. Father Babbitt is survived by his brother, Bart, of Norwich, Conn., and many nieces and nephews.
