SWILLEY, ROSCOE H., 77, of Largo, died Saturday (Oct. 5, 1996) in Tampa General Hospital. He was born in Tampa and came to Largo in 1966.
He served 13 years as police chief for the city of Largo, retiring in 1979. Previously, he had retired as a sergeant after 20 years in the Tampa Police Department. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member and a deacon of First Baptist Church of Largo, and past member of Largo Rotary Club, past president of Florida Peace Officers Association, and was a director of Florida Chiefs Association and Tampa Bay Area Chiefs Association. He served on the Governor's Task Force under Govs. Leroy Collins, Rubin Askew and Robert Graham.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Olive; two daughters, Patrici a Crotty, Crestwood, Ky., and Alice Cryer, Oak Harbor, Wash.; and five grandchildren.
