  The Daily Star January 28, 1999 COOPERSTOWN — Dr. Alan Fletcher McEwan, V.M.D., 82, of Cooperstown died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999, at Bassett Healthcare. He was born June 23, 1916, in Cooperstown, a son of Paul and Mabel (Talbot) McEwan. Dr. McEwan graduated from Cooperstown High School in 1933, and was an undergraduate of Cornell University. He was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary School. On Dec. 27, 1941, he married Jean Frances Hanlon of Elizabeth, N.J. They resided in Washington, D.C., from 1941-1980, where he was a veterinarian most recently at the Ross Veterinary Hospital. Dr. McEwan was a past president of the Lakewood Cemetery Association, president of the Farmers' Museum, a board member of NYSHA, a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, District Board of Medical Examiners, a communicant of St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and an avid golfer. Dr. McEwan is survived by two daughters, Barbara McEwan Pope of Cooperstown and Ann McEwan Marnell and her husband, Roger, of Huntsville, Ala.; grandchildren, D. Brent Pope Jr. and his wife, Gina, of Seattle, Wash., Ellen Fletcher Pope of Arlington, Va., David Alan Marnell, Amy Hanlon Marnell and Sarah Ann Marnell, all of Huntsville, Ala., and Michael Telfer Marnell of Camp LeJuene, N.C.; a great granddaughter, Sage McEwan Pope of Seattle, Wash.; and a brother, William T. McEwan of North Carolina. He was predeceased by his wife, Jean Hanlon McEwan, in 1985, and a brother, Richard H. McEwan.
