HARTWICK — Douglas F. Wayman died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, at his home in Hartwick. He was 78 years old, having been born at the former Thanksgiving Hospital on Grove Street in Cooperstown on May 13, 1926, the son of Floyd and Murl (Dyer) Wayman.
Doug was a lifelong resident of the "village" of Hartwick. He was an avid follower of NASCAR racing and professional golf. He was proud of the many different automobiles he had owned and could often be found reading automobile publications. Doug owned a camp on Canadarago Lake for more than 20 years and spent numerous hours there fishing and taking his many friends for boat rides. He was a faithful, conscientious and dedicated employee of Bruce Hall Inc., retiring from there in 1989 after 50 years, but returning thereafter as a part-time employee for an additional nine years. After his retirement, he enjoyed his "neighborhood" snow removal, gardening and lawn work. Doug always took great interest in his neighbors and friends and their many projects. He was, until his illness, an active senior citizen and over the past five years enthusiastically engaged in the Clark Sports Center's winter walking program. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hartwick.
Doug is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Frances (Zupevec) Wayman; his son, Kenneth Wayman of Cooperstown; and his daughter, Linda Alessi, her husband Dan, and their three sons, Brian, Benjamin and Matthew, all of Patchogue, Long Island. He is also survived by his twin brother, Dean Wayman of Middlefield and Dean's wife, Maria; as well as by several cousins and nieces and nephews.
