  He was a seaman, enlisting from New Bedford 12 Feb 1862 as cook on "Orretta" "William G. Anderson" and "Ohio". He was discharged 17 Jun 1864 at Boston. Af- ter the war he was a boat steerer on the whaler "Osprey" and second mate on "Helen Mar". He died at home of uncle in Stockton CA of TB, ae 22-9-23 (family Bible) of brain disease
