  Newport Mercury January 5, 1973 [report date] Wednesday, December 27 John M. Hedly, 81, of 598 Middle Road, Portsmouth, for 30 years a clerk at the Supply Depot of the Naval Base, died Monday in Newport Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Madeline Hedly. Mr. Hedly was a member of the Kenneth Gilbert VFW Post of Middletown. Born in Portsmouth Nov. 26, 1891, he was the son of Arthur and Mary Hathaway Hedly. He leaves two daughters, Mrs. Ann Wilding of Warwick and Mrs. Dorothy Sleagle of Santa Ana, Calif.; two sisters, Miss Hahala Hedly of Portsmouth and Mrs. Stella Ellis of Boston; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
