  Newport Mercury and Weekly News July 15, 1977 Little Compton - William S. Carter, 77, of John Dyer Road, Little Compton, died yesterday at Rhode Island Hospital after a long illness. A painter most of his life, he retired in 1972 after being a painter and caretaker for the David Brayton estate here for several years. He was a member of the United Congregational Church of Little Compton, a member and past grand of Seaconnet Lodge of the International Order of Odd Fellows, and a member of the American Legion and the Little Compton Game Club. He served in the Navy during World War I. He was born in Little Compton, a son of William T. and Mary E. Hedley Carter and lived here all his life. Mr. Carter leaves a son, William S. Carter Jr. of Foxboro, Mass.; two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Wingate of Greenville and Mrs. Marjorie Simmons of Little Compton; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren
