  Newport Mercury and Weekly News October 8, 1948 Charles C. Sherman, at one time president of the Painters Union died Saturday at the Newport Hospital after a short illness. He lived at 9 Carroll avenue. Born in Middletown, he was a son of the late Charles and Anastasia (Townsend) Sherman and was in his sixty-eighth year. He leaves two daughters. Mrs. Benjamin Landers and Mrs. Ernest Larson, a brother, Richard Sherman, all of this city; two sisters, Mrs. Harry Hazard of Middletown and Mrs. Richard Hesse of Milton, Mass.
