  Providence Journal (RI) February 13, 1995 HAZEL PEARSON, 74, of 370 Black Point Lane, a secretary in the principal's office of the Portsmouth Middle School for 20 years before retiring in 1985, died Wednesday at home. She was the wife of James Thomas Morley Pearson Jr. Born in Somerset, Mass., she was a daughter of the late George H. and Mary Bailey (Sherman) Cottell. Mrs. Pearson was active in Pack 1, Cub Scouts of America, sponsored by the Lions Club. She was the first woman to receive the Silver Fawn Award in 1971, and the George Bucklin Award in 1966 from the Narragansett Council, BSA. She had been a den mother for 20 years. She was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, and a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was previously an executive secretary at the the Navy Torpedo Station in Newport in World War II. Besides her husband she leaves three sons, James T.M. Pearson III of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Robert Leo Pearson of Barrington, and Allen B. Pearson of Cleveland, Ohio; three sisters, Dorothy L. Pickering of Barrington, Louise Robinson of Somerset, and Irene Steele of Fall River, Mass.; seven grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter.
