  San Mateo Times And Daily News Leader June 11, 1945 BELMONT - June 11, - Flags were flown at half staff over public buildings here today out of respect to Mayor Louis A. Barrett, 71, civic leader, member of two school borads and head of municipal government here since 1938, who died Saturday afternoon at his home, 1045 Ralston avenue, after a period of failing health. A resident of Belmont for 31 years, he had been a member of trhe city council since 1936, and seven years ago succeeded Harold Danforth in the Mayor's chair. Mayor Barrett was retiring from the Sequoia Union High school district board after 10 years, having declined to seek re-election last month because of ill health. He was a member and had served as clerk of the Belmont elementary school district borad for 23 years. Mr. Barrett, a native of Illinois, was a member of the United States Forestry Service for 38 yearsuntil his retirement in 1936, at which time he was assistant regional forester of district No. 5. He was a veteran of the Spanish American war, having served in the Philippines. In lodge and service club work, he was a member of Plumas Lodge No. 60, F. & A. M.; the Society of American Foresters, and the San Francisco Commonwealth club. He leaves a widow, Mrs. Ruth L. Barrett; a daughter, Mrs. Ruth Ross of Belmont; two sons, William A., of Plumas county amd Louis Jr. of Belmont; two brothers, Arthur and George Barrett; a sister, Mrs. Nellie C. Lindo, and a granddaughter.
