Frances S. Barrett entered into rest Aug. 20, 2010, at the age of 93, after a short illness.
Fran was born to Franz Xavier Meslang and Sophia Jewett McAllister on April 7, 1917, in San Francisco, Calif., where she was raised and attended Mission High School.
Fran met and married Louis A. Barrett of Belmont, Calif., in 1937. At that time they owned and operated a grocery store in Belmont with Lou's brother Bill Barrett. Between 1940 and 1943 Fran and Lou lived in Lovelock, Nev. where Fran was a homemaker and Lou was an accountant for a mining company.
From 1943 to 1967 Fran and Lou and their family resided in the San Francisco Bay Area; Portland, Ore.; Seattle, Wash.; and then back to the Bay Area as a result of Lou's career as an executive with Langendorf Bakeries. In 1967 the family moved to Calistoga when Fran and Lou became the managing partners of the Calistoga Spa. They were later joined by various family members who are still involved in the business. Fran and Lou retired from full-time involvement in the late 1980s. In their leisure time, Fran and Lou enjoyed extensive traveling around the world by air and around the country in their motor home.
Fran and Lou celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Nov. 19, 1997. Joined in Calistoga by their three children and their growing families,
Fran was predeceased by their eldest son Gary Barrett in March 1997, and her husband Lou in January 1998. She is survived by their daughter, Beverly More; son, Bradley Barrett; daughters-in-law, Mindy Barrett and Diane Barrett; grandchildren, Kelly and Mike Barrett, Shannon More, Rhonda Barrett and Keegan Barrett; and five great-grandchildren.
Fran was predeceased by her half-brother Alfred McAllister, brother David Meslang and sister Dorothy Loomis.
