  The Atlanta Journal and The Atlanta Constitution May 3, 1988 The Rev. Roy Pettway, rector emeritus of Church of Our Saviour, died Sunday at his home. He was 75. The Episcopal priest "died peacefully in his sleep," a relative said. The requiem mass will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the church. The body was cremated and the ashes will be placed in a chapel at the church. The Rev. Pettway was rector there for 39 years, from 1945 until retiring in 1984. Luther Roy Pettway was born April 20, 1913, in Atlanta, the eldest of four children of Luther C. Pettway, a circulation employee of The Atlanta Constitution, and Mrs. Louise Bernhardt Pettway. He graduated from Boys High; attended Georgia Tech Evening School, now Georgia State University; and graduated from Seabury-Western Theological Seminary in Evanston, Ill. He was minister of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Decatur before moving to Church of Our Saviour. The Rev. Pettway reached the rank of lieutenant colonel as a chaplain in the National Guard. He was the author of "A Christian Life" and "The Episcopal Church." His wife of 43 years, Mrs. Martha Ballew Pettway, died at 65 in 1986. Surviving are three sons, Luther R. Pettway Jr. of Duluth, Paul B. Pettway Sr. of Newnan and Stephen B. Pettway of Norfolk, Va.; a daughter, Mrs. Martha Brown of Atlanta; a brother, George Pettway of Atlantic Beach, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Hazel Murphy of Worcester, Mass.; and nine grandchildren.
