  The Sun Herald (Biloxi, MS) 2005 Jack McCarty Barrett, age 90 of Gulfport died Friday, March 18, 2005 in Gulfport. Mr. Barrett was a native and lifelong resident of Gulfport. He served in the Army Air Corps as a Captain during World War II and participated in the China, Burma, and India Theatres. He was an Engineering Officer of the Liaison Squadron and commander of the convoy that took them across the Himalayas to China. He also went to Bombay, Calcutta, and Shanghai. Mr. Barrett returned to Gulfport in 1946 and opened and operated Jack Barrett's Modern Cleaners and Laundry until his death. He was a past member of the Gulfport Yacht Club, Gulfport Lions Club, and served as President of both the Mississippi Laundry and Cleaners Association and the Southern Laundry and Cleaners Association. He was preceded in death by his wife Edna Love Worrell Barrett; parents Thomas Hickman and Minnie Earl Chichester Barrett; brothers and sisters Ashton Chichester Barrett, Olive Barrett Clower, Thomas H. Barrett, Beryl Barrett McMahan, and William Earl Barrett. Survivors include his nieces and nephews Ann Barrett Hancock, Patricia Barrett McConnell, Olive Elizabeth Clower Beach, Catherine Clower Thornhill, Dorothy Clower Phillips, Margaret Clower Hannen, Thomas Simeon Clower, Jr., Thomas Henry Barrett, Jr., Judith Barrett Conerly, Gwinn McMahan Lewis, Thomas Vance McMahan, William Earl Barrett, Jr., Mary Elizabeth Barrett, Peter Hickman Barrett, and Ashton Scott Barrett.
