YORK Elizabeth Barrett DeLong, 84, died Thursday, March 16, 2006, at the York Hospital. Ms. DeLong was born November 5, 1921, in Philadelphia, a daughter of the late John and Lucille (Lewis) Barrett.
She had been a teacher for the Northeastern School District and was a substitute teacher for the West York School District. Prior to her teaching career, she worked for RCA in Camden, N.J. Ms. DeLong was a graduate of Temple University with a degree in sociology and psychology. She was a member of the University Club, York Audubon Society, York Hiking Club, and the Codorus Bird Club. She taught water aerobics at the YMCA and was a member of the Bridge and Canasta Club. She was a recipient of the Golden Eaglet and helped at Planned Parenthood. She loved hiking and sailing.
Ms. DeLong is survived by three sons, Thomas W. DeLong of Huntsville, Ala., John R. DeLong of York, and James B. DeLong of Seattle, Wash.; six grandchildren; and her former husband, William T. DeLong of York.
She was predeceased by a brother, John Barrett; and a sister, Lucille Barrett.
