• Notes

  Find-a-Grave Mary was the second daughter of Phillip Willard May, Sr., and Ada Jeannette "Ada Jane" McConaughy, of Rochelle, Illinois. She attended Northwestern University and became a first grade teacher. She taught Indian Reservation children at the Soo Locks, at Rochelle, Illinois, and was teaching at the Punaho School in Honolulu when Pearl Harbor was bombed. She married "Jack" in Honolulu and returned to Rochelle, after WWII, as the wife of Captain John Oliver Turkington of the U.S. Army. She was the mother of Jaclyn Jill, Judith Ann, John Edward "Skip" and Thomas Scott Turkington. She substitute taught in the elementary school, taught Sunday school in the Presbyterian Church and was a Blue Bird, Campfire Girl and Cub Scout leader. She was a a member of PEO.
