  The Berkshire Evening Eagle December 13, 1943 Dalton - Pvt Charles H. Watkins Jr., of the Marines, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Watkins, South Street, is missing in action in the Southwest Pacific, the family has been informed by the War Department. No details were given in the telegram, which stated he was missing in line of duty. Pvt. Watkins enlisted about a year ago and was called to active duty Jan. 11. He recieved boot training at Parris Island, N.C., spent a week's furlough at home then was shipped to the Southwest Pacific. He graduated from Dalton High School in June 1942, and was employed during much of his undergraduate days at Silvernail's Pharmacy, Inc. His brother, Sea. 1c. George Watkins, attached to the subnarine service, lost his life near Norfolk, Va., in the fall of 1940. His body was shipped home in June 1941. _____ The Berkshire Evening Eagle February 3, 1944 Dalton - The second member of their family to lose his life in the World War, Pvt Charles H. Watkins Jr., 19. Marine Corps, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Watkins, 232 South Street, was killed in action in the Southwest Pacific area, the War Department states. A telegram which gave no details, stated that a mistake had been made in listing the youth as missing last Nov. 17 and that he had been killed in action. His older brother, Sea. 1c. George Watkins, attached to the subnarine service, lost his life near Norfolk, Va., in December, 1940. His body was shipped home in June 1941. Pvt. Watkins enlisted and was called to active duty Jan. 1, 1943. He recieved boot training at Parris Island, N.C., spent a week's furlough at home then was shipped to the Southwest Pacific. He attended Craneville School and graduated from Dalton High School in June 1942. During much of his high school days he was employed by Silvernail's Pharmacy, Inc. He and his high school chum Pvt. Fred Murray Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Murray, Curtis Avenue enlisted together. The latter is now in the Southwest Pacific. Pvt. Watkins is survived by his Parents, four sisters, Mrs. John L. Condron of Dalton, Mrs. Lester Vosburg of Pittsfield, Mrs. Thomas Tracy of Chester and Mrs. Laverne Taylor of Lanesnoro and a brother, Francid, of Philadelphia.
