KING CITY, Mo. -- William Burke McCrea, 97, King City, died Saturday, May 17, 2003, at a health center in King City.
Mr. McCrea was born Nov. 5, 1905, near Maysville, Mo., to George William and Ida Catherine (Burke) McCrea. Billy, as he was affectionately known, lived most of his life south of King City on Hwy. 169. He was a farmer all of his life. In Billy's lifetime, he witnessed many changes, most notably in the field of agriculture. One of his favorite past times was to reminisce with family and friends about "the good old days." Billy was a member of the King City Presbyterian Church. During many years of service to the church, he served as an elder and taught several different Sunday school classes.
On Dec. 25, 1927, he married Cleone Cook. To this union, two children were born, William Dean and Ellen. Billy and Cleone celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary Dec. 25, 2002.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Maurice and Grayson McCrea, both of Maysville.
Survivors: a son, William Dean McCrea, King City; and a daughter, Ellen Wyatt, Union Star; four grandchildren, Dee Ann McCrea, Doug McCrea, Denyne Claiborne and Diane Bertelsen; seven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
