John R. Brunner, 83, of State College, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, in State College. He was born April 13, 1927, in Bradford, a son of the late Reginald L. and Leah Banks Brunner.
On July 8, 1950 he married Margaret Lee Hills, who survives at home.
He was a 1950 graduate of Penn State. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy. Prior to his retirement, John R. was employed by PNC Bank in the finance department. John R. was a member of the State College Presbyterian Church, where he was very active, having served as a deacon and a trustee. He was a volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels. He was also a member of State College Elks Club and Huntingdon Elks Club. He enjoyed gardening.
In addition to his wife of 60 years, he is survived by a daughter, Holly B. Smith Pillot (Andrew), of State College; a son, Jon-Michael Astin and his partner, Larry Hribar of Lynhurst, Ohio; two grandchildren, Adriane Lee Peck and her husband Dr. Joshua Peck, of Galloway, Ohio, and Lydia Gene Smith and her fiancee Martin Lee, of Burlington, Vt.; and a great-grandson, Benjamin Craig Peck.
